Beyond the Face Exhibition Launch 2025
What do you see when you look beyond the face?
When we search beyond someone’s face we see the stories — layers of emotions, memories, hopes and humanity. The face is just the cover, the question is, what lies beneath? We have once again delved deep to uncover some of these stories for our Beyond the Face Exhibition.
This year we are showcasing portraits and life stories of 12 older adults living in Nelson, aiming to challenge society’s perceptions of ageing. Each portrait is accompanied by highlights, achievements and insights, encouraging viewers to look past physical appearances of ageing to see the rich experiences and knowledge each person holds. The project combats the notion that older adults are invisible or burdensome to society by presenting them as vibrant citizens with valuable stories to share.
On Tuesday 15th April we launched our fourth Beyond the Face exhibition at The Granary within Founders Park in Nelson. We gathered to celebrate the launch, and to honour and thank the participants for generously sharing their stories. As well as the usual speeches and time to mingle and chat, we were also treated to a short performance from our Nelson Hummin’ Strummers, causing many a toe-tapping and singing along.
